Summer fishing sometimes makes you forget about everything. However, anglers should never forget the safety rules when fishing. This is especially true for fishing from a boat. We will figure out how to fish from a boat, what are the safety measures when fishing from a rubber boat or kayak, what to do if the boat capsized far from the shore, what is special about fishing in a thunderstorm, fishing in the power transmission zone and what you cannot do while fishing.
General safety rules for fishing from a boat
- Firstly, it is safe to move on water only in a properly equipped and serviceable boat - take care of this in advance.
- Secondly, when fishing from a boat it is important to be able to swim - this skill will help you to save yourself and save a friend.
- Thirdly, in order to avoid accidents it is better to fish without going far from the coast.
- Fourthly, if you are going to fish away from the coast, then you should take care of the availability of rescue and signaling equipment on board.
- Fifth, before going fishing, you should definitely inform the relatives and friends about the fishing place, as well as specify the time of return from fishing.
Before going fishing from a boatto a pond, carefully check the condition of the boat, make sure that it is not leaking, and that the oars are working.
Be sure to have alifebuoy, belt or vest, bucket or other container for pumping water in the boat.
Do not go fishing and do not place the boat directly on the fairway, where river boats regularly sail, as you may not be able to pull anchor during time and sail to a safe distance when the need arises. The boundaries of the fairway are usually indicated by conventional signs and signals, for which it is strictly forbidden to sail on rowing vessels, especially not to set them on anchors for fishing.
Sometimes you have to fish from a boat while standing- Take a stable position, facing the bow or stern and legs a little apart.
If when fishing from a boat together there was a need to switch places, then you should do it slowly, bending slightly to maintain balance, without sudden movements, so as not to bank the boat and fill it with water. If a high wave is walking on a pond or the boat is unstable, it is better to swim to the shore and change places there.

Safety precautions when fishing from a rubber boat or kayak:
Today, many anglers use collapsible kayaks and rubber boats. It should be borne in mind that these boats require special care, as their bottom and sides are easily pierced against sharp stones and flooded driftwood.
Rubber boats and kayaks should not be anchored far from the shore, and even a medium wave should stop fishing and return to shore. Such watercraft are very unstable, so you can’t get up to their full height, it’s not even safe to go overboard.
It is not recommended to use collapsible kayaks and rubber boats for beginners.

What to do if the boat capsized far from the coast?
If the boat capsizes far from the shore at great depths, then it first lies on its side, then turns upwards with the keel. If there is nobody to wait for help nearby, then, grabbing the stern or bow of the boat and working with your feet, direct it to a shallow spot or to the nearest shore. Do not attempt to climb onto an overturned boat, as it may roll over again by hitting or covering you. If the boat overturned on a strong current or on a river overpass, you should hold on to the boat, swim behind it and get out onto the shallow shore.
